Mens Summer Wetsuits
Summer Surfing on the Welsh Coast
The Welsh summer surf season is longer than most people expect. Water temperatures at spots like Rest Bay and the Gower start climbing from April and peak around August and September — often reaching 17 or 18 degrees on a good year. A 3/2mm wetsuit handles that comfortably, giving you enough warmth for extended sessions without overheating on a warm day. From April through to October, a summer wetsuit is the primary suit you'll reach for.
XCEL, Patagonia, Ocean and Earth and Vissla
XCEL leads the summer wetsuit range at Balsa. Their 3/2mm suits use Infiniti and Axis neoprene with good stretch panels through the shoulders and arms — important for paddling comfort over a long session. Patagonia's Yulex suits are worth serious consideration if you care about what your wetsuit is made from; natural rubber with a recycled lining is a significant step up from standard petroleum neoprene. Ocean and Earth offer solid performance at a more accessible price point. Vissla's recycled Geoprene suits round out the range with another environmentally conscious option.
Spring Suits vs Full 3/2mm
For the warmest summer days — July and August primarily — some surfers prefer a shorty or spring suit (short arms and legs) to keep cool while still having core coverage. For the shoulder months of April, May, September and October, a full-length 3/2mm is more practical. Both options are available in this collection. If you surf through winter as well, take a look at the mens winter wetsuits collection for the heavier suits.
